Firearm Transfers
SIA holds a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and can receive firearms on a customer’s behalf. Under federal law, firearms purchased online are shipped from the seller’s FFL to the buyer’s chosen FFL. The buyer cannot take direct delivery; they must pick the firearm up from the receiving FFL . We charge $20 per transfer
Steps to transfer a firearm:
- Purchase – The customer buys a firearm from another FFL or online seller. At checkout, they should specify “Standard Issue Armory” as the receiving FFL and provide our contact information. The seller will ship the firearm to us.
- We send our FFL – Once notified of the transfer, SIA will send a copy of our FFL to the seller and coordinate shipping.
- Wait for notification – When the firearm arrives, SIA logs it in our Acquisition & Disposition record as required by the ATF and performs the necessary checks . Do not come to pick up the firearm until we call you.
- Schedule an appointment – After logging the firearm, we will contact the customer to schedule a pickup time. pickups are by appointment only. Walk‑ins cannot be accommodated.
- Pick up and background check – At the appointment, the customer must bring a valid government‑issued photo ID. Federal regulations require completing ATF Form 4473 and passing a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check. Once we receive a “Proceed” response, the transfer is completed, and the customer may take possession.
- Fees –$20
Important notes:
- Customers should inform the sending FFL that SIA will be receiving the firearm.
- We cannot transfer firearms to anyone under 21 for handguns or under 18 for long guns.
- If the NICS check is delayed or denied, SIA must hold or return the firearm per ATF rules .
- Customers must pick up the firearm within 30 days) or storage fees may apply.
